Friday!

November 30, 2007

This week went by really quickly and I have a feeling my weekend is going to go even faster. Here is a drawing I have in The New York Times today in the letters section, and a sketch I’m working on for an article about intellectual property in the year 2018.

Some drawings…

November 27, 2007

Over the past year I have had the opportunity to work alongside two great design firms Open, and Smoke. Both firms are located in New York City, and do great work for a large variety of different clients. I thought I would post some work I’ve done for both firms that have common themes of collaging drawings. Also I have posted some drawings I completed for The Brooklyn Public Library last summer. So here we go….

First are some concept sketches done for the great guys at Smoke Design. These drawings were used in mock ups for Verizon, during pitches for the cover design of the Yellow Pages. Neither set of drawings ran, but I thought that the drawings looked nice, and could have made for a great Yellow Pages cover.

Last winter I worked with Open on a poster for the World Financial Center Arts Program. The posters listed holiday film events going on around the city that were sponsored by the arts program. The drawings and type that I completed were used in newspaper ads, magazine ads, mailers, and posters. I was really thrilled with the way the entire project looked, and was especially excited to recieve an eight foot tall vinyl poster that was exhibited at the World Financial Center.

The next set of drawings were used by the Brooklyn Public Library for their summer reading campaign. The summer reading campaing had a “mystery” theme and the icons followed suit. The drawings were used on billboards, newspaper and magazine ads, bookmarks, bus wraps, posters, and shopping bags.

A few more things…..

November 12, 2007

These are some drawings I did for the September/ October 2007 issue of Good Magazine. Good Magazine is great.

These drawings were for an article on the art of list making, the article was written by Matthew Dessem

This drawing accompanied an article by Michaelangelo Matos about the differences between magazines and books.

These drawings on paper are roughly 30″x 25″ and they are drawn with marker. The paper has a somewhat reusable strip of glue along the top of the back, and the paper sticks to a wall like an over sized post it note.

And finally here are some spot illustrations of the items needed on a roadtip. The spots were completed for “2 Magazine”. 2 Magazine is the magazine for couples in Canada. Amazing.

Arkitip

November 12, 2007

Last month I had a few spreads of work in the 42nd issue of Arkitip. The issue was curated by Kaws, and also features spreads from Mark Dean Veca and Sam Friedman. Special thanks to Kaws for getting me into the mag.
Here is an image of the cover (with crazy special Incase laptop case) and a shot of some of the work I had in the issue.

Legends Zine

November 9, 2007

This is a small zine I made last week. Recently I’ve been doing lots of type drawings for assignments, and personal projects that are still in the works. I hadn’t made a zine in a while, so I made this little guy just for fun. The cover features Connie Hawkins, a Brooklyn basketball legend. This zine is printed in an edition of 25.

Tactile

November 8, 2007

Die Gestalten Verlag is a German publishing company that has produced over 250 books. The focus of their publishing is always on new design from all over the world. Recently I was asked to be a part of their new publication entitled “Tactile”. “Tactile” is a beautiful hardcover book focusing on new designers and artists from around the world using new materials to build three dimensional projects for design and personal projects. I am very excited to be a part of this book, and have my work shown alongside so many talented artists.

Silk Screen Poster

November 8, 2007

This is a poster that I printed last month, it is roughly 18″x14″. It is printed in an edition of forty and is a two color drawing of an old radio I drew at my friends Sam and Laura’s house. Soon I will be sending out prints to friends and selling a few of them here on the world wide web. Thanks to my pal Soner On for helping me get this print completed.

New York City Marathon, New York Times

November 6, 2007

Today I have an illustration on the cover of a special “New York City Marathon” section of the New York Times. The illustration consists of a header type treatment of the phrase “26.2″ (the distance of a marathon) and also a footer type treatment of the five boroughs. Here is a scan of the entire cover and a close up of the borough artwork.
